I did 4 small paintings, after what Jane Davies called "scribble" exercise. A few paintings, limited palette, added marks, a series. On her website she said she did 10 or more. I may add to this series.
I did 4 small paintings over a few days - starting and coming back using a few colors (yellow ocher), red, purple, black from my watercolor travel set. I added pen and ink. I would not call this a "scribble" - I know how to scribble - but this is after Jane's project called scribble art from her website.
A few examples: 1 photo of 4 small painting with the print out of Jane's notes on her project.
One of the things I consider growth is - I am using what I have, modifying the activity based on the supplies I have, the space I have. This solves not having a studio. This is part of my objective to use the art supplies I have. Mostly - I wish I had some indigo High Flow or ink!
Sketchbooks everywhere. Everyone talking about sketchbooks on Pinterest, websites, youtube etc. I like the idea that Louise FLetcher, Alice Sheridan, Jane Davies and many others have - Amy Maricle - use sketchbooks. I have been completing a small moleskin sketchbook about once month since I really began to "work" on this practice. I liked the way Louise Fletcher "put", placed by gel medium her practice art in a sketchbook. I started to do that, just loosely started to do that using tape. Once again, without a studio, I need to be a little careful about the carpet etc. Don't want to make too much mess and I am just figuring this out. I have collected the small 2x2 and a little larger paintings from the Mindfulart exercises and placed them in a artists envelope. I know Amy keeps many of them in small boxes - good use of the Nespresso boxes. Anyway, more shall be revealed on capturing "art", make marking in a sketchbook.
I also listened to a class presented by Nancy Hillis. Interesting and doctor and an artist. She has many classes to explore. There may be more that are free. She talks about the same things that Laura Horn does and especially what I learned or listened to from Louise Fletcher and by listening to ArtJuice podcast. Much info that I know, have learned beginning with Amy Maricle, Mindfulness Art Studio.
Nancy talks about the technique trap which is about letting technique or lack of perceived technique deter us from our true self when doing art. She talks about art supplies but being unable to create. Something all of us aften get stuck on. I was grateful when Amy said we can get caught up with acquiring supplies and trying techniques, but being unable to just make marks!
Hillis talks about the inner critique and letting others or our own expectations tell us if we are artists or not. The great "compare". I am always comparing myself to other artists or most barrier creating - my sisters, niece, sisters neighbors, other artists such as Duane Barhart. I see their art and decide - I am no artist. I am a "secret" artist. Evolving, developing a practice doing mark making.
My practice right now is daily art itself or watching a class, writing or journaling about what I see, hear or am thinking about. I am evolving by having a daily practice. That much I can acknowledge myself for - having an art practice. Something occurs daily - ha! Partly this is due to covid - what else to do while staying close to home. Covid has spawned creativity, or diligence in some ways.
