Back in Minnesota, Morning Pages...

Julia Cameron wrote the Artist Way and two important exercises are writing morning pages and going on an artists date.  This makes sense to me.  I have started morning pages, but have not been disciplined about the exercise.

Morning pages daily - "write three pages", and artists date,  a walk, a paddle, a trip to the store, for coffee, seeing art, a drive....

The idea is to "write" and promote creativity.  I listened to the book during the drive back to Big Pine Lake.  Driving (riding) listening, and thinking made me want to write about the feelings about where I am at now and what it means to be in each home place and places in between.  A sense of place and history.

Working on the cabin, adding a few things to make it more comfortable, more conducive to creating and enjoying the view.  Julia talks about the artists way as part of spiritual recovery.  Very close to recovery from addiction.   I bought the book years ago - took it to Good Will as part of the big move and downsize.  Never read it - one of the Loft teachers suggested I check out the book.   I was chagrined.  I bought the audio book from Audible and began to listen.   When we stopped in Portland at the Starbucks on 185th - I walked around the Barnes and Noble trying to decide is I should buy the book.  I decided I cold not buy the thing three times.  I remembered I had a B&N gift card - came from somewhere and thought the gift card can buy The Artists Way.   Listening to the book being read by Julia was inspiring.  Having the paper copy of the book will be a good ting to refer to with all of the assignments and tasks.

But now I must commit to writing morning pages and set up artists dates....I want to as part of my recovery.

Update 8/28/2018

I have managed to write Morning Pages 3 or 4 times a week since being "at the lake".   Writing Page and listening to On Being episodes - reading - thinking - have been my exercises in creativity this summer.

Finished Scott Turow's  Testimony , now Munich by Robert Harris.
