The Loft: Seeing Things Differently Writing Prompt
Seeing things differently....
Figuring it out, noodling, proceeding, forging a path. The Loft writing class I am taking focuses on moving from writing for corporate work to writing more creatively. My approach to this topic is to explore seeing things differently through the lens of actually transitioning from full employment to part time work to full retirement.
I was supposed to retire March 1st. I gave notice of my intention in August of 2017. Eventually I picked the date as 3/1/2018. A few weeks from the date, the company offered me a part time position. That is what I am "working" on - figuring out how to add value working part time. My leaders were existed about trying this out in order to hang unto talent when many new associates have joined the company and our group. I can assist them in figuring out their role.
The new role has been somewhat challenging - though when I am interacting with new people we find our way and so far all have said it is helpful.
Non work hours - days - I look forward to sleeping in a little - since I hardly do that.
Seeing things differently - means what next What do I do? What to do? I want to "walk" but that only lasts an hour or so. What next? I have been working on "new" spaces to explore the "new" things I am spending time on. The library or Starbucks to write. Today - I went to the library and was chagrined to find out it is closed on Mondays.
Seeing things differently - even going for a Buddy free walk today - was mixed up - I drove around too long trying to find a parking place to walk. My hip was bothering so the walk was not too long. I guess I can acknowledge that I did walk.
Seeing things differently - I ended up creating a space out on the deck where I was able to sit and write and listen to my book. This is all part of doing things differently and the deck is a good place to write, do art, read, etc when the other spaces are no viable.
Seeing things differently - doing art is still a challenge. My art supplies are in boxes and plastic containers in cabinets. Hard to do art in this fragmented way. Even if I take advantage of other art spaces like End of the Trail in Grearhart or the Loft Arts in Astoria I still need to carry art supplies around.
Seeing things differently - I have not decided the art thing yet. This seems like it may be better at the cabin where I can set up a studio in the porch. I am really looking forward to using the porch as "my space".
Seeing things differently - I did check out the gym at the Community Center - one of my goals, finally done.
Seeing things differently - being mindful. Taking time to meditate on purpose.
Seeing things differently - I am considering getting a sponsor.
What else? The art I did do - in phases or steps - water color first, add pictures or words from magazines - or add the pictures first and then add the paint. Add text on the pages over the paint and the pictures. The text is words written over and over - specific words that are powerful.
Seeing things differently - I have gone back to weight watcher and need to work on losing a few pounds.
Seeing things differently - there is a bible study, I have gone to church. Maybe there is somthing here.
Seeing things differently - I had added yoga - been missing for a few times - need to get back.
