Need to write an hour a day was my intention for class. The objective is to continue to establish or develop a writing practice. Teacher suggests a a notebook - I have many notebooks, several active at this time. However, I also like the digital tools I have been experimenting with.
Some interesting connections and contacts emerged this week. Via LinkedIn I renewed contacts with three friends and colleagues from Phamis days. Two of them are women in the Health Info field that I have worked with, admired for a long time. They are retired or semi retired and separately we talked about having much that might be fun to talk about.
Today I listened to/watched several Ted Talks on subjects which are great topics to write about - I quickly took notes via a notebook that lays on my desk, as the speakers gave their talks. I will write about them and what I learned or what resonated with me and how this all fits into my finding my way.
Adam Leipzig talked about finding your purpose in 5 minutes. Good stuff - that made sense.
In the talk, entitled How to Know Your Life Purpose in 5 Minutes, he asks everyone to answer five questions:
Who are you? Lori
What do you do? I lead, I can teach, I can present "things" and excite people. But not sure "what" for sure to teach, present, or share...more will be revealed.
Who do you do it for? Not sure yet - program women, children, people who love history?
What do they want or need? To learn something, to be excited about something.
How do they feel as a result? We both, we all feel content, happy, like we learned something, like we have had a new experience.
What is it that I do? What can I do to add value for others?
More to think about.

Terri Trespcio - talks about the cultural imperative to find our "passion". Passion is not a plan. I get that - makes so much sense. It is nice or good to be excited about things - to be jazzed about something or looking forward to something - but a plan (or maybe a list or a series of lists - "bullets") is what moves one forward or is what living is. Success fuels passion - passion does not fuel success. I could be so busy looking for passion I could miss opportunities right in front of me. It is not passion that makes a book get written, or a career changed - I know this from being laid off twice. Passion did not get me the next job - it was diligence, hard work and discipline.
Passion is when your energy contributes to or helps other people.
Connie Schultz - commentator for the Plain Dealer talks about not wanting to volunteer to be invisible. We gray haired ladies over 50 become invisible - I have felt that way, Connie share something Lucille Clifton said - what they call you is one thing - what you answer to is another thing.
